Southridge CNA shines at national conference

Sylvia Ebot, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Southridge Specialty Care in Marshalltown received the National Association of Health Care Assistants’ (NAHCA) Professional Style Award on June 2 at NAHCA’s national annual conference held in Des Moines.

The Professional Style Award is given to a CNA or direct caregivers who set the standards for appropriate duty apparel.  They dress for success and display pride in their work through their professionalism of dress and appearance.

Nominated by Administrator Murt Steffen, she points out that Ebot’s professional style reaches those she cares for too. “Sylvia is always well-groomed and neatly dressed, her hair is never out of place,” said Steffen. “The residents who she takes care of are also neatly dressed and pleasant looking – the men are shaven and hair neatly combed; the women neatly dressed with their face made up and their hair styled.”

NAHCA is a one-of-a-kind organization that supports professional caregivers who are considered to be the backbone of health care and its heart and soul. With 40,000 members throughout the US, NAHCA supports the professionals who provide 90 percent of the care for residents in skilled nursing.

Care Initiatives supports and encourages CNA participation in NAHCA educational opportunities, including attending their national conference.  CNAs attending this conference are provided an opportunity to learn from industry leaders and each other, and the conference empowers and encourages aides and assistants to make a difference among their peers back home.
