Statement on Coronavirus (March 17, 2020)

The health crisis called the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) is not only a worldwide issue, but is quickly becoming a state of Iowa issue. Our organization cares for 2,500 long term care, skilled nursing care and hospice patients each and every day. The health and well-being of our residents, patients and 3,000 employees across the state of Iowa is our top priority.

Although information about the outbreak of the coronavirus continues to change at a rapid pace, Care Initiatives has a team of dedicated individuals following federal, state and local updates and guidelines. We have put considerable time and effort into implementing infection control measures and staying on top of the latest developments and recommendations for preventing exposure and spread of the coronavirus.

We all have a role in helping to slow down the spread of this virus. We ask that everyone familiarize themselves with federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations of practicing good hand hygiene and staying home if you feel ill. The CDC operates a website (www.coronavirus.gov) containing a wealth of information, additional recommendations and resources.

Finally, we are grateful for the incredible professionalism our staff continues to exhibit in the face of unprecedented challenges. We are also grateful for the patience and understanding residents and resident family members continue to show as we limit personal visits and communal activities.

Working together and helping each other is how we will overcome the temporary inconveniences and obstacles before us.
