WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (April 1, 2025) — La Porte City Specialty Care achieved a deficiency free state survey and celebrated their achievement on Thursday, March 27.

A deficiency free survey means state surveyors found zero deficiencies during their annual inspection and confirmed that La Porte City Specialty Care is meeting or exceeding all state and federal requirements in the areas of resident care, services, and environment. This designation is rare and comes after a rigorous process where state agencies conduct unannounced surveys, often over the course of several days, to observe resident care, check all records, and interview residents, family members and team members.

“To achieve a deficiency free survey takes a collective team effort and really demonstrates their commitment not only to providing quality care but ensuring residents have engaging activities, feel safe, and have an environment where they can thrive,” said Jessica McDyer, Chief Operating Officer for Care Initiatives. “We are beyond proud of the team for continuously demonstrating their dedication and commitment to our residents and families.”

La Porte City Specialty Care has achieved a deficiency free survey in previous years, including 2016 and 2021. In addition, the team received the 2023 Governor’s Award for Quality Care in Health Care Facilities from the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals and Licensing (DIAL). The Governor’s Award recognizes Iowa health care facilities that offer unique or innovative activities to enhance the quality of care or quality of life for their residents.
