Celebrating Success
After a horrific car accident on Oct. 1, and 4 months away from home, 19-year-old Joey is heading home from Pinnacle Specialty Care!
Joey (gray shirt, hat in the center) came to us from Madonna Specialty Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was admitted there after an extended stay at the University of Iowa following a horrific rollover accident where he was a passenger on Oct. 1 He suffered multiple fractures, a traumatic brain injury, was on a tracheostomy and spent time in a coma. He needed extensive physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy before returning home.
Joey was turned away from many skilled nursing and rehab facilities due to his age but we gladly accepted him at Pinnacle. He fit in great with our staff (some of us have kids his age or are close in age to him) and was a great resident. While at Pinnacle he worked on cognition and some home skills such as cooking.
We’ve grown attached to him here but we’re excited for him that he’s discharging home safely to continue his life.
