Chariton Specialty Care rated 5 stars
July, 2018 - Chariton Specialty Care has earned an overall 5-star rating by the federal government’s Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for its skilled nursing care and rehabilitation services. Skilled nursing facilities are rated quarterly based on health inspections, staffing and quality measures of 11 different physical and clinical measures of residents. Chariton Specialty Care is Medicare and Medicaid-certified and undergoes a rigorous on-site annual survey by CMS and/or a state of Iowa inspection team. About 13 percent of the nation’s 15,000 Medicare-certified skilled nursing facilities have earned Medicare’s 5-star rating.
Administrator Selena Humphrey says new regulations placed added pressure on the facility this year. “We’ve always been a highly rated specialty care center. But CMS added new regulations in the areas of safety and emergency preparedness, patient-centered care and resident involvement. Our team worked hard to implement these new standards and to provide the type of quality care we are known for, and it showed. I couldn’t be more proud of our staff!” says Humphrey.
