Northern Mahaska Specialty Care earns national quality recognition
January, 2020 – Northern Mahaska Specialty Care has earned the American Healthcare Association’s (AHCA) 2020 Quality Initiative Tier 4 Recognition. January, 2020 – New London Specialty Care has earned the American Health Care Association’s (AHCA) 2020 Quality Initiative Tier 4 Recognition. Only 66 skilled nursing facilities out Iowa’s 439 achieved this level. Skilled nursing facilities that have achieved four out of four of the established quality initiatives dedicated their efforts over the past year to achieve the following improvements:
- Safely reduced long-stay and short-stay hospitalizations by at least 10 percent, or maintain a rate of 10 percent or less since 1st Quarter 2017
- Achieve customer satisfaction of 90 percent or more, or improve customer satisfaction by 10 percent
- Safely reduced off-label use of antipsychotic medications by at least 10 percent since 1st Quarter 2017, or maintain a rate of 8 percent or less among long-stay residents, and maintain a rate of 1 percent or less in short-stay patients
- Improved functional outcomes (mobility) by 15 percent

New London Specialty Care will be honored at the AHCA/NCAL Quality Summit on Tuesday, March 10 in Grapevine, Texas.
