Hospice Meeting Benefits Local Children and African Orphans
Care Initiatives Hospice held its second annual summit on Tuesday, September 29. Dozens of staff from all over Iowa came together to hear about the state of Care Initiatives Hospice, recommit to Care Initiatives’ Core Values and to plan for the future.
In addition, the group uses the opportunity to benefit children in need. Staff donated new toys to kick start Care Initiatives’ annual campaign for Toys for Tots. A fundraiser to benefit the Road to Hope, a program initiated by the Center for Hospice Care and Global Partners in Care, included a bake sale and silent auction spearheaded by Judy Porter, Social Worker, and the Des Moines Team. Global Partners in Care focuses its efforts in Sub-Saharan Africa where many children are orphaned by a continuing AIDS epidemic. These children have no chance of an education and often rely on extended family or their village to survive. Hospice staff raised almost $700 to donate to the program.
